This knife is a meticulously crafted example of classic Nordic knife-making, combining rare, natural, and refined materials. The handle is composed of ebony, stabilized fossil whale bone, and stabilized elk antler – three organic materials, each with its own texture and history. Nickel silver and fiberboard spacers provide both visual separation and structural strength. The overall effect is both harmonious and full of character.
The blade is ground from carbon damascus and bears the distinct marks of layered forging. High sharpness and durability are combined with a lively pattern in the steel, making each blade unique. The carbon steel requires regular maintenance but rewards the user with a personal patina and a long-lasting edge.
The sheath is made from raw-edge leather and decorated with a pauted (embossed) motif, adding an extra dimension to the handcrafted expression. It is finished with a nickel silver ferrule, providing both strength and an aesthetically pleasing conclusion.
The knife measures 113 mm at the handle and 115 mm in blade length – a balanced and practical size, suitable for both use and as a collector’s item.
This knife was awarded 1st prize in the 2013 Knife Club competition between the Randers, Silkeborg, and Viborg knife clubs – a recognition of both technical craftsmanship and the overall design expression.
